Preface

In Ziwei Dou Shu, the auxiliary stars are divided into six auspicious stars, six inauspicious stars, and two assisting stars. This classification might easily lead to the misconception that auspicious stars are always good, while inauspicious stars are bad. In reality, auspicious stars are called so because their characteristics tend to have a more positive impact on the individual, whereas inauspicious stars have the opposite effect. The six auspicious stars can be likened to the "righteous sects" in martial arts novels, while the six inauspicious stars are more like the "Sun Moon Cult." Not everyone in the righteous sects is good, and not everyone in the Sun Moon Cult is bad.

What we need to understand are the traits of these auxiliary stars and the new characteristics they produce when combined with the main stars. Water can carry a boat, but it can also boil porridge. Every star has its good and bad sides, and we cannot use them to hastily judge a person's character.

If the fourteen main stars are the "head teachers" that set the tone for a palace, then the fourteen auxiliary stars are the "class monitors." If the head teacher has capable monitors, managing the class will be much easier; if the monitors oppose the head teacher, the class will naturally be quite lively.

Note: Some of the fourteen auxiliary stars undergo transformations (Si Hua), and their traits can be influenced by these transformations. For example, the literary and memory-enhancing traits of the Wenchang star may, when transformed into a negative aspect (Hua Ji), exhibit below-average characteristics.

Six Auspicious Stars

Zuofu Star

The Zuofu star's trait is assistance. Because of this trait, people with Zuofu in their life palace particularly enjoy helping and promoting others. This help carries a "parental perspective," offering support from a higher position.

The Zuofu star has the effect of "enhancing status and position." Many consider Zuofu as a "male benefactor" because its assistance is direct and forceful, making its impact more noticeable. These characteristics suggest that Zuofu individuals may display confidence and authority in work or social settings, often taking on leadership roles and providing guidance and support to others.

However, their directness and assertiveness might sometimes come off as "aloof," making them seem less approachable. Additionally, the Zuofu star is particularly adept at leveraging relationships to enhance their status and influence, adding a layer of interpersonal skill to the main star.

Youbi Star

Compared to the directness of Zuofu, the Youbi star is more gentle. Youbi's assistance is more subtle and often goes unnoticed, earning it the title of "female benefactor." Gentle, kind, considerate, and empathetic—these are the words often used to describe the Youbi star.

They are good listeners, attuned to others' needs, and willing to offer support and encouragement. They often play the role of a peacemaker in relationships, providing comfort and solace. As a result, many describe Youbi as "soft-hearted," easily swayed by others' opinions, which can make their stance or thoughts less firm.

Many strong stars benefit from pairing with Youbi, as it softens their edges, making them more "open to advice." However, stars that are already indecisive may become overly hesitant when combined with Youbi.

While Youbi's assistance is valuable, it sometimes lacks judgment, leading to situations where help may backfire. Youbi also adds a touch of artistic flair and talent.

Tiankui Star

The Tiankui star is known as the "Heavenly Noble," often regarded as a "male benefactor." If Zuofu exudes a parental aura, Tiankui exudes a leadership aura. This star has a strong desire to lead, enjoys "managing people," and tends to make decisive decisions. Both Tiankui and Tianyue are adept at using formal language and are skilled in the art of rhetoric.

Ancient texts praise Tiankui highly, suggesting that possessing it leads to both wealth and honor. In the societal context of the time, individuals skilled in literature, with leadership ambitions and a deep understanding of interpersonal dynamics, indeed had better opportunities to rise to prominence. However, in today's society, people often disdain those who hold positions without the corresponding merit.

Among the benefactor stars, Tiankui's assistance requires personal effort to obtain, and it only helps with immediate issues—akin to treating a headache by addressing the head or a footache by addressing the foot. Thus, Tiankui's help is only a temporary solution. As the saying goes, "To forge iron, one must be strong oneself." Tiankui's assistance is directly tied to one's own abilities and awareness. This star is also associated with scholarly success, but it primarily enhances literary skills, offering little help in technical or scientific fields.

Tianyue Star

The Tianyue star is known as the "Jade Hall Noble," often regarded as a "female benefactor." This is because Tianyue's assistance, like Youbi's, is more indirect. While Tiankui excels in leadership, Tianyue excels in planning. They are good at thinking, analyzing, and formulating strategies. If Tiankui likes to "manage people," Tianyue prefers to "manage affairs," and they dislike others meddling in their responsibilities.

In terms of helping others, Tianyue differs from Tiankui's symptom-focused approach. Tianyue is more likely to address the root of the problem, resolving issues before they escalate. For example, if you need help buying a car and are short on the down payment, Tiankui might lend you the money directly, while Tianyue might negotiate a discount for you, saving you the amount you needed.

However, Tianyue's assistance also requires personal effort to obtain. This star enhances wisdom and insight. To strictly differentiate, Zuofu and Youbi offer help as soon as they become aware of a need, much like family elders. For Tiankui and Tianyue, simply being aware is not enough—you must actively seek their help.

Wenchang Star

The Wenchang star is the foremost scholarly star in Ziwei Dou Shu. It represents literary and scholarly matters. You can think of Wenchang as a "mini Tianliang," sharing Tianliang's aloofness and stubbornness. Ancient texts refer to Wenchang as the "path to official success through proper means." What does this mean? It's like telling your mother, "Mom, I want to study xxx and work in xxx in the future," and your mother giving you a thumbs-up, saying, "Great ambition, I fully support you." That xxx is likely a "proper path to success."

This star has a strong affinity for literature, giving people a refined and scholarly impression. On its own, it is not considered a peach blossom star (romantic star) because it can seem rigid and inflexible. However, when combined with other peach blossom stars, it transforms into one, shifting from a rigid impression to a charming and romantic one.

Wenchang is known for its good memory, easily retaining what it has heard or read. Of course, this is relative. The scholarly success associated with Wenchang stems from this trait, as literary skills and memory were crucial for achieving success in imperial examinations in ancient times. While these abilities remain valuable today, they no longer hold the same irreplaceable status.

Wenqu Star

The Wenqu star is the foremost artistic star in Ziwei Dou Shu, representing artistic cultivation and romance. It is known as the "alternative path to success," or more accurately, the "artistic path to success." The "alternative path" contrasts with the "proper path." Similar to the example with Wenchang, if you tell your mother, "Mom, I want to study yyy and work in yyy in the future," and your mother turns to your father and says, "Bring me my 40-meter sword!" then yyy is likely an "alternative path to success."

Wenqu is typically more flexible and emotionally sensitive. Because Wenqu enhances expressive abilities, it is also associated with gossip and disputes in Ziwei Dou Shu.

Wenqu needs to deepen its cultural foundation to give its artistic flair a solid base. Otherwise, it may come across as pretentious or overly sentimental. In Ziwei Dou Shu, many "paired stars" trigger additional effects when combined. When Wenchang and Wenqu are together, they form the "Literary Nobility and Literary Splendor" pattern, indicating exceptional talent. However, relying too much on patterns can lead to misjudgments.

Six Inauspicious Stars

Dikong Star

Ancient texts describe Dikong as "breaking wings mid-flight," which sounds quite severe and not particularly positive. However, Dikong is actually a relatively "neutral" star. The reason it gives the impression of breaking wings mid-flight is that this star focuses more on thinking than on action.

Dikong tends to avoid trouble. If a task involves many steps or considerations, Dikong is likely to choose escape. As the saying goes, "The first step is always the hardest." When faced with challenges, Dikong tends to retreat, creating a sense of "interruption," which is why it is known as the "interruption star."

This star is good at thinking, with a mind full of ideas. When combined with Tianma, it forms the "Tianma Xingkong" (Heavenly Horse in the Sky) combination, where thoughts are not only active but also highly imaginative. These creative ideas give Dikong a natural talent for artistic creation and文案策划. However, in real life and work, ideas need to be implemented. Dikong's imaginative ideas often fail to materialize, leading to a sense of "others laugh at me for being too crazy, I laugh at them for not seeing through."

Dijie Star

In contrast to Dikong's "breaking wings mid-flight," Dijie is known as "sailing in rough seas." The difference is that Dikong primarily affects thoughts, while Dijie affects material matters. Dijie gives this impression because it is highly selective about opportunities. Even when faced with a seemingly attractive opportunity, Dijie will ponder it carefully.

This selectivity often leads to missed opportunities, creating the impression of turning a blind eye to great fortune. However, as the saying goes, "A gentleman loves wealth, but acquires it through proper means; a petty person loves wealth, but lacks manners." This mindset of not chasing every opportunity makes Dijie a "hard worker," constantly seeking paths within its defined rules.

However, there's nothing wrong with earning an honest living. Dijie is a risk-averse star, making long-term endeavors a significant challenge. Initial investments may be abandoned when risks arise, leading to a sense of "working for others." For Dijie, quick and straightforward results are the most comfortable pace.

Some endeavors, such as hobbies or research projects, cannot yield quick results. This requires finding a suitable rhythm for gradual progress, which is why Dijie often falls into the trap of being a jack-of-all-trades but master of none. The solution is to create a schedule and tackle tasks in stages.

Mars

This star sounds "impulsive," and it does indeed make people more impulsive, but this impulsiveness is mental. Mars tends to make decisions without thorough consideration, often acting on instinct. This impulsive mindset makes them energetic and determined, eager to pursue their goals and unwilling to compromise. However, it can also lead to rash decisions influenced by emotions.

Compared to pursuing long-term achievements and solid foundations, Mars prefers immediate gratification and quick results, unwilling to wait or delay enjoyment. This trait gives them extraordinary energy and enthusiasm in pursuing their dreams, but they need to be mindful of thinking before acting to avoid regrets or unnecessary risks.

Mars has a significant impact on emotions. When happy, they are passionate; when angry, they are like a storm. Their emotions fluctuate greatly, and their inner passion and impulsiveness often manifest directly in their expressions. Mars individuals are not good at hiding their emotions, openly displaying joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness. This direct and intense emotional expression makes them appear honest and genuine in communication.

Lianzhen Star

Unlike Mars's direct expression, Lianzhen does not release emotions all at once but instead internalizes them, slowly releasing them over time. Because of this, Lianzhen often gives the impression of being reserved and deep. They tend to process emotions internally, not easily showing their feelings outwardly.

This reserved nature makes them calmer and more restrained in handling emotions, less likely to be swayed by external influences. However, excessive reserve can lead to emotional buildup, so they need to learn to express and release emotions appropriately to maintain mental health and balance in relationships.

Lianzhen is meticulous and likes to plan carefully, avoiding impulsive actions. They usually think deeply before making decisions, preferring to methodically plan and arrange all aspects of life. While this cautious nature makes them more steady and reliable in handling problems, it can also lead to missed opportunities due to over-caution.

However, their meticulousness also makes them more detail-oriented and稳健 in financial and life planning, helping to maintain balance and stability. This trait makes them more cautious and thorough in handling various matters, but they also need to learn to open up and take moderate risks to achieve greater growth and收获.

Tuoluo Star

The Tuoluo star, like a spinning top, is a constantly rotating star. This star brings a sense of纠结 (indecision). Of course, indecision often leads to拖延 (procrastination). Tuoluo tends to struggle with making decisions, often陷入 (getting stuck in)纠结 and犹豫 (hesitation), making it difficult to act quickly. This emotional state can make them appear indecisive, prone to拖延 or missing opportunities.

While thinking twice before acting can avoid many risks and increase the chances of success, Tuoluo needs to learn to overcome indecision and face choices bravely to avoid missing opportunities or陷入 endless cycles. The traits of stars are neither good nor bad; they are simply characteristics. If used wisely, they can yield unexpected results.

Tuoluo is good at research,做事 (handling tasks)循序渐进 (step by step), and remains calm and unhurried. They are suited for long-term tasks, valuing steady progress and沉淀 (accumulation) over immediate gains. They enjoy exploring the "principles" behind things, delving into the essence and规律 (laws) of matters. This pursuit of knowledge and exploration of the essence of things gives them a unique advantage in specialized fields or academic research, but they also need to avoid excessive纠结 and hesitation to prevent affecting实际行动 (actual actions) and achievements.

Qiangyang Star

If Mars represents mental impulsiveness, Qiangyang represents physical impulsiveness. This star is a typical行动派 (action-oriented). Qiangyang tends to express itself through actions rather than words or thoughts. They prefer to act quickly,勇敢 (bravely) facing challenges and不畏 (fearing no) difficulties. This physical impulsiveness makes them more decisive and勇敢 in handling problems, adept at making quick decisions and taking action.

The concept of "thinking twice before acting" does not exist for Qiangyang, so they need to be mindful of思考 (thinking) before acting to avoid mistakes due to impulsiveness. Their action-oriented nature makes them firm and decisive in achieving goals and overcoming obstacles, but they also need to consider the potential consequences before acting.

Qiangyang tends to focus more on their own actions and goals, paying less attention to others' opinions or expectations. They prefer to live according to their own ways and节奏 (pace), less influenced by external factors. This independent nature makes them appear somewhat different from others, sometimes even被视为 (seen as) "异类 (outsiders)." However, this uniqueness gives them a distinctive personality and charm, making them steadfast and independent in pursuing their goals and lifestyle. While they may lack亲和力 (approachability), their sincerity and determination often attract those who appreciate their unique charm.

Two Assisting Stars

Tianma Star

If there's one star in Ziwei Dou Shu that can't sit still, it's Tianma. It adds a lot of变数 (variables) and不确定性 (uncertainty). Tianma is energetic,充满活力 (full of vitality), and loves刺激 (excitement) and变化 (change). They often find it hard to stay put, constantly seeking new challenges and opportunities. Tianma is adventurous, eager to try new things, and impatient with枯燥乏味 (dull and monotonous) life. They crave freedom and多样性 (diversity), unwilling to be束缚 (restricted) or限制 (limited).

Tianma actively pursues their inner goals,喜欢 (enjoys)自由自在 (free and unrestrained) environments, and dislikes being束缚 or限制. They渴望 (desire) to explore the未知 (unknown), seeking personal growth and development. For someone who loves to roam, Tianma is a plus, but for someone seeking stability, it can be quite challenging.

Rather than sticking to one goal, Tianma prefers to explore different opportunities and possibilities. This makes Tianma more likely to spot成功的机会 (opportunities for success) than the average person. However,坚持 (persistence) and沉淀 are Tianma's weaknesses, as they often make the mistake of "picking up芝麻 (sesame seeds) while losing西瓜 (watermelons)."

When Tianma combines with Dikong, it forms the "Tianma Xingkong" (Heavenly Horse in the Sky) trait, where thoughts are not only active but also highly imaginative,源源不断 (continuously) generating创意 (creative ideas). However, this combination also requires the配合 (cooperation) of other stabilizing stars to turn创意 into reality.

Lucun Star

If there's one star in Ziwei Dou Shu that is most受欢迎 (popular), it might be Lucun. This is because it is a财星 (wealth star), and who can resist wealth? However, Lucun's wealth is more like "capital." Lucun adds stability, as people tend to be cautious with their capital. Thus, this star is also associated with caution.

When it comes to financial支出 (expenditures), Lucun is very cautious. This cautious attitude can indeed avoid many economic losses, but it can also lead to missed opportunities. It's not hard to infer that Lucun is also a risk-averse star, capable of stabilizing一些浮躁 (some浮躁) main stars. Therefore, ancient texts often regard Lucun as a star that can化解煞气 (neutralize negative influences).

Lucun individuals are usually务实 (practical), good at accumulating and preserving wealth. They take a long-term view of wealth, unwilling to take risks for short-term gains. This trait makes them稳健 (steady) in financial management and investment, avoiding大起大落 (major fluctuations).

Lucun also represents social status and recognition, related to the ancient concept of "禄位 (official position)." Those with Lucun often achieve social status and respect commensurate with their abilities, which is why Lucun is considered an auspicious star.

Auxiliary Star Combination Effects

The primary role of auxiliary stars is to assist the main stars, and many auxiliary stars share the same palace, leading to some conflicts in traits. However, these conflicts are not contradictions. For example, when Qiangyang and Lianzhen share the same palace, one represents impulsive action, while the other represents reserved caution. The result is that actions may be impulsive, but consequences are still considered. Of course, this tension between wanting to act impulsively while considering outcomes can create significant emotional压力 (pressure). Thus, an accumulation of煞忌 (negative stars) can make life quite challenging.

Similarly, Tianma and Tuoluo have明显冲突 (obvious conflicts) in their traits, and these two stars can also share the same palace. Tianma loves change and冒险 (adventure), while Tuoluo tends to纠结 and caution, leading to significant内耗 (internal conflict). This内耗 can manifest as either physical or mental strain, depending on the palace.

Conclusion

The fourteen auxiliary stars are an essential part of the Ziwei Dou Shu system, and their role should not be underestimated. They not only调和 (harmonize) the traits of the main stars but also add more细节 (details) and变化 (variations) to the命盘 (natal chart). In actual chart interpretation, we need to consider the combined effects of the main and auxiliary stars, as well as their表现 (manifestations) in different palaces, to arrive at more accurate readings.

Remember, the traits of the stars themselves are neither good nor bad; the key lies in how these traits are utilized and how the interactions between different stars are balanced. Each person's命盘 is unique, and the influence of auxiliary stars varies from person to person. Therefore, interpretation requires灵活运用 (flexible application) rather than机械套用 (mechanical套用).
